Antibiotic guidelines

 As you are aware the Ministry of Health has already issued antibiotic guidelines on central nervous infections and UTI both in adults and in children.

Guidelines on endocarditis and surgical prophylaxis were handed over to the DGHS on 21.02.2014 and that on infectious diarrhoea in adults is ready to be handed over.

Guidelines on infectious diarrhoea  in children , Trauma and Sepsis in splenectomy are awaiting final comments from relevant professional colleges.

Guidelines on bone and joint infections, skin and soft tissue infections and febrile neutropenia are ready to be sent to relevant professional colleges for their final comments.

Subcommittees are currently reviewing the guidelines on Medical prophylaxis and Intra-abdominal infections received after intercollege meetings.

Since November last year new members joined the antibiotic guideline review subcommittee and now we function as two groups, as a morning and an afternoon group.  Morning group in coordinated by Dr. Jananie Kottahachchi and the other members are Dr. Shirani Chandrasiri, Dr. Dushyanthie Athukorale, Dr. Sujatha Pathirage and Dr. Thushari Dissanayake . The afternoon group is coordinated by Dr. Kumudu Karunaratne and Dr. Malka Dassanayake, Dr. Philomena Chandrasiri, Dr. Malika Karunaratne, Dr. Dhammika Vidanagama, Dr. Samanmalee Gunasekera, Dr.Rohini Wadanamby and Dr. Lilani Karunanayake serve as the other members.
